Halfway reflection

Image
To keep up with the requirements of the course, I had to set a schedule for myself and become organized. I had to write down all the due dates of the assignments and cupcakes. This was difficult for me because it is always something I struggled with, but in turn became extremely helpful. It taught me how to be on top of things and it ensured that I had written things down so that I would not forget them. I felt like giving up actually after the first couple assignments because I realized I submitted my part B but had forgotten to submit my blog. I was so mad at myself for being so careless and it made me upset that I was disorganized, but I realized that one grade would not affect my overall success in the class and that I could still pull through and do well. My tenaciousness has become even stronger because I am able to continue to push through to achieve the grades I want to get. It has taught me to be organized and to focus for the following assignments and make sure I do what I n...

Reading Reflection

Gabrielle Chanel cultivated the face of elegance through her brand, Chanel. A fashion icon with such a controversial history. What surprised me most is the hidden details of the life of, who we all know as Coco Chanel, had affairs with a Nazi spy. This is one of the things I least admire about her, but although this is now common knowledge, it is not something that discourages women from purchasing her goods. The quality and the belief behind the products are worth the politics. What I admire about Coco Chanel is her undeniable fashion forwardness. She was able to change the way fashion is perceived in modern day. From the more conservativeness of the early 1900's to the less constraining and more socially acceptable of today's fashion, we have but Coco Chanel to thank. The double C's can be found worldwide and are synonymous with poise, grace, and class. She has turned a single boutique into a national empire, a little black dress into a staple garment in every woman's...

Figuring out Buyer Behavior 1

1. Segment; American study abroad students ages 18-22 who like to go out 2/3/4/5. Richard's need occurs when he is in Rome during the week-- he even goes out on Mondays. He enjoys going out with his friends during the week because he's rather travel during the weekends. His need for an American club is unmet because of the lack of clubs that fit his standards in Rome. He depends on his friends to know what he's doing to fix his unmet need of wanting to go out. Clinton's need occurs on the days leading up to the weekends-- Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. He also goes out on Saturdays if he feels fine. He doesn't mind the clubs that he attends currently, but he is missing the music from back home that he's used to. He also isn't much of a wine person and enjoys an occasional Long Island Iced Tea. He stays in Rome usually because he'd much rather take day trips around Italy than go out of the country. Clinton trusts the judgments of the locals to tell him...

Idea Napkin 1

1. You; My talents are cooking and photography and I enjoy traveling. My aspirations are to open a cool bar concept in New York. I think opening an American club in Rome would line up with my aspirations of opening a bar in the city. This would be a great start/ addition to my business venture. 2. Offering; I would be offering a fine selection of American drinks, music, and company. The venue would have the vibe of an American club and would be big enough, but not too big, to fit all American study abroad students. 3. Who; American study abroad students who are looking for an authentic, fun, night. 18-22 year old students who are okay to spend a little bit more money because they are abroad, like going out, and miss the way clubs are from home. 4. Why; It's valuable because the idea is coming from an American with experience rather than an Italian entrepreneur trying to make money. The idea is genuine. People will pay money because the experience is worth it when comparing it to...

Testing the Hypothesis Part 2

1. I interviewed 5 students who stayed in Friday night instead of going out with the rest of their peers. Certain college study abroad students aren't interested in going out and partying, it's not their thing. They'd much rather immerse themselves in Italian culture and avoid looking like the stereotypical Americans that are looked down upon. Another student said that they would rather travel outside of the country or to a different Italian city over the weekend than go out in Rome. 2. The need for going out is different than the need for drinking. There are hundreds of restaurants all over Rome to drink and experience Italian culture. The students I interviewed would much rather sit at an Italian bar or restaurant and enjoy the presence of Italy. 3. The underlying cause of the outsiders' need is different than those who are inside the boundary. Those outside are looking to experience Italian culture while those inside are looking for a place of acceptance and comfor...

Second Most Important Part

My solution to the problem of the lack of American clubs for study abroad students in Italy is starting a club in the middle of Rome. Providing the  students with decently priced drinks, good music, and a relatable feel would create a great experience for Americans abroad. The club would have a DJ, good lighting set and an enforced dress code, to provide those in attendance an "exclusive" feel. I believe that creating a brand behind the bar would also be essential to attracting customers and repeat customers, so an instagram-able experience is crucial. A photo booth, maybe even live dancers, and definitely promoters nearby every American campus location would be key to bringing in a good crowd of people to experience this new and elite club.

Testing the Hypothesis

1. American Club in Rome 2. American study abroad students coming to Rome aren't able to go out and enjoy their nights in Rome because there isn't an American styled club there. 3. Who will be the attendees of this club? Is it just American study abroad students or international students? Will locals attend? Where will it be located? What type of music will it have? Will it have drink specials? Will the age be 18 or 21? What is the dress code? What days will it be open? Will it be open during the day or just at night? Why is it needed? Why don't study abroad students conform to the Italian lifestyle instead? 4. Italian people aren't the main target audience, but they do go to small bars where Americans tend to gather. Isabella thinks that it would be a great idea because she misses the thriving environment of New York. The outings here, while very culturally entertaining, can get a little mundane. There is no action and American music which she loves. She and her fri...
