Tourist Trend https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/ST.INT.ARVL The number of tourists all over the world are increasing. Each year more and more people leave their homes, board a ship, plane, train, or bus and enter a new location. The information from the World Bank Organization provides graphs that show the increasing number of tourists visiting each country. An opportunity exists in the hotel, food, and entertainment business to attract these tourists to visit. The prototypical customer is one who chooses to leave their home and discover new parts of the world. Opening up a chain of hotels in a couple of the countries with increasing visitors is an opportunity that should be exploited; although it is relatively difficult because people typically book hotels that they trust and have heard good reviews of. A person interested in opening up hotels also needs a lot of money to pursue this opportunity, for this reason, someone might not see this as an opportunity. I saw this opportuni...

Opportunity Belief

1. An opportunity arises when there is a high demand for a club type scene and none around in the area. 2. There are so many universities in Rome filled with American students studying abroad. What there are few of are clubs like those that Americans are used to. This is most likely a need that has always existed, but I am currently experiencing it abroad. To meet this need, people are going to bars that have "American" music, but aren't getting the experience they are used to. The prototypical customer is an American student between the ages of 18-22 who is studying abroad for the semester/ year who is experiencing homesickness/ culture shock and desires a location where s/he is free to meet people with the same feeling. 3A. Sidney is age 18 studying abroad in St. John's University and will be here for the entire spring semester. She is from New York City. 4A. Sidney is in a sorority and misses going out to her local student bar. It's only the first week o...

Entrepreneurship Story

Image
I first became interested in entrepreneurship when I heard Steve Madden's story. I love shoes and I have always dreamt of opening up my own store, whether it be a designer shop, or a retail store. Steve Madden has always been my favorite company, and I heard about his story getting started on his designs in the movie The Wolf of Wall Street. After that I started watching videos about his journey and even got the opportunity to watch him speak at Norman Hall at University of Florida my freshman year. The one thing that stuck with me was when he said that not all passions will make you money, and that sometimes a passion may just be a hobby, but if you can excel in that passion and somehow turn it into a career, you can be a successful entrepreneur. That has always stuck with me, and I think about it frequently when thinking about the future.

Bugs

1. Walking around Rome and not knowing what the beautiful buildings are for. 1A. Not being educated on the language yet and am unable to read the names of them. 2. Buying carbonated water instead of natural water. 2A. Water is natural in America, we aren't used to drinking fancy pants ~water~. 3. Being unable to speak to people back home right when I wake up to tell them about my day. 3A. Time differences are 6 hours ahead. 4. Not having breakfast like in America. 4A. Italians breakfast differently-- very light for the start of the day and heavier on dinner. 5. Having to spend money on food everyday while abroad. 5A. There are no meal plans 6. Not knowing if the taxi is cheating you for your money or not. 6A. Being a "tourist" abroad, it's much easier to be targeted. 7. Being hungry but only being offered pizza and pasta. 7A. Living in the heart of Rome, this is what appeases tourists who are here for a few days. 8. Having to do homework while abr...
